Salon Booking OS system requirements
4 min read
These are the requirements the installer verifies on its requirements page and again at every update (php bin/cake.php upgrade check). They describe the environment this release was tested in.
Hosting at a glance #
Hosting: Salon Booking OS by OsDotâ„¢ works on compatible shared hosting, cloud hosting, and VPS hosting. A VPS is not required. Your server must meet the listed PHP, database, HTTPS, URL-rewriting, database-privilege, and cron requirements. The built-in installer checks compatibility before installation.
- PHP 8.3 or PHP 8.4.
- The required PHP extensions:
intl,mbstring,pdo_mysql,openssl,sodium,curl,json,ctype,fileinfo, and the ones this product adds (listed on the installer’s requirements page). - MySQL 8.4 (certified).
- Or MariaDB 10.11, 11.4 or 11.8 (the certified MariaDB versions).
- A database user with the required privileges, including
TRIGGER. - HTTPS.
.htaccess/ URL rewriting.- The ability to run an every-minute cron job.
- Compatible shared hosting, cloud hosting and VPS hosting are supported.
- A VPS is not required when shared hosting meets these requirements.
Not every hosting plan meets these requirements; the installer names anything missing before it writes anything.
Certified, supported at your own risk, refused #
Every PHP and database series falls into one class. Only the last one blocks:
| Class | What the installer does |
|---|---|
| certified — a series this release was tested on | passes |
| end of life — a series past its end of life | warns, with the date and the supported series; you may continue at your own risk |
| not yet certified — a series newer than every certified one | warns; you may continue at your own risk |
| not certified — any other series at or above the floor | warns; you may continue at your own risk |
| below the floor — older than the oldest version the tests proved | refuses |
| Engine | Certified | Floor | End of life |
|---|---|---|---|
| PHP | 8.3, 8.4 | 8.3.0 | — |
| MySQL | 8.4 | 8.0.16 | 8.0 (April 2026) |
| MariaDB | 10.11, 11.4, 11.8 | 10.6.0 | 10.6 (July 2026) |
The same verdict appears on the administration area’s notice of an installed site, which never blocks it.
PHP #
| Requirement | Value |
|---|---|
| PHP version | PHP 8.3 or 8.4 (see the classes above) |
| Extensions | intl, mbstring, pdo_mysql, openssl, sodium, curl, json, ctype, fileinfo, and the product’s own. sodium encrypts the saved provider settings and is often switched off by default in hosting panels: enable it. |
gd | resizes the uploaded pictures; WebP and AVIF output are used when the gd build supports them |
| Web and scheduled-task PHP | the PHP that runs the scheduled tasks must have the same version and extensions as the website |
| Memory and uploads | memory_limit, upload_max_filesize and post_max_size: the installer shows what this product needs and warns below it; only memory below the product’s minimum is refused |
No Composer and no Node.js are needed on the server: the package ships its production dependencies and its built web assets.
Database #
| Requirement | Value |
|---|---|
| Engines | MySQL or MariaDB (see the classes above) |
| Character set | utf8mb4; every table is created as utf8mb4_unicode_ci, whatever the server’s default is |
sql_mode | each of the application’s connections switches itself to strict mode, so a non-strict server default only gives a warning |
| Privileges on the application’s database | SELECT, INSERT, UPDATE, DELETE, CREATE, ALTER, INDEX, DROP, TRIGGER, REFERENCES — held directly or through the user’s default role; LOCK TABLES and CREATE TEMPORARY TABLES are recommended |
| Binary logging | when it is on and the user has no privilege to create triggers under it, the server needs log_bin_trust_function_creators = 1; the installer diagnoses it and says what to change |
Use a dedicated, empty database and a dedicated user with exactly these privileges.
Web server #
- HTTPS is required for a production installation; the installer refuses plain HTTP except on a local development host. Behind a proxy that ends HTTPS, the installer explains how to trust it.
- Apache 2.4 with
mod_rewriteand.htaccessfiles allowed (AllowOverride All), or nginx with every request routed towebroot/index.php. - Document root
Web/webroot/(recommended), or the contents ofWeb/uploaded into the folder the domain serves (see Installation). - Writable by the web server:
tmp/,logs/,storage/, andconfig/during the installation. - Outbound HTTPS from PHP for the integrations you switch on (e-mail with TLS, payment providers, sign-in providers, push).
Scheduled tasks #
A scheduler (cron, or the hosting panel’s cron feature) that can run PHP from the command line every minute, with the same PHP version and extensions as the website. See Scheduled tasks.
Browser #
Any current desktop or mobile browser. No plugins are needed.
