How to activate your Salon Booking OS license
4 min read
Your copy of Salon Booking OS by OsDotâ„¢ is activated with the license key from your purchase. The key is sent to the publisher’s license server over an encrypted connection, then stored encrypted on your server, and it is never shown again. Only the key is needed — never an order number or an account password.
The license is managed on System → Software license, by the owner.
Activating #
During the installation. In the installer’s Install step, before any database table is created, the phase Software license activation asks for the Software license key. Enter the key from your purchase e-mail; the installer confirms it with the license server and goes on. If the key is refused, the phase stops with the reason and nothing has been written to the database, so you can try again with the right key:
| The installer or the page says | What to do |
|---|---|
| Enter the license key exactly as issued. | Copy the key again from your purchase e-mail, without spaces before or after it. |
| The license server could not be reached. Nothing was changed; try again in a few minutes. | Try again later. If it keeps happening, check the License server line of the installer’s server requirements: your server must be able to reach the license server over HTTPS. |
| The license server rejected this key. | Check that you entered the key of this purchase. |
| This key is valid but does not include Salon Booking OS by OsDotâ„¢. Check the purchased product. | The key belongs to another product. Use the key of your Salon Booking OS by OsDotâ„¢ purchase. |
| This key has no activation left. Deactivate another installation first. | Release the activation of an installation you no longer use (see Moving to another server). |
Later, under System → Software license: Activate this installation (or, once a key is stored, Activate with a different license key), enter the key and choose Activate.
Until the installation is activated, Overview → Get started lists Software license activated as a step to do.
What the page shows #
Software license shows the Status, your edition (Tier), this Installation, when it was Activated and Last confirmed, the Next renewal, the Grace period while one runs, your key’s Activations (used, of how many, how many remain) and the Last problem. Its Diagnostics help support when something is wrong.
| Status | What it means |
|---|---|
| Not activated | No license is active on this installation. New work is paused until you activate one. |
| Active | The license is active and confirmed. |
| Active — renewal due | The license is active; its daily confirmation is due. Nothing pauses. |
| Active — renewal problem (grace period) | The last confirmation did not succeed. The site keeps working while it tries again, until the grace period shown on the page ends. |
| Rejected by the license server | The license server refused this installation’s license. New work is paused. |
| Not confirmed for too long (grace exhausted) | The license could not be confirmed for longer than the grace period. New work is paused until it is confirmed again. |
On your live site, while the status is anything but Active, the menu item reads Software license (attention).
The daily confirmation #
Once a day the scheduled task license renew confirms the activation with the license server (see Scheduled tasks (cron)). Check now on Software license confirms it at once.
If the license server cannot be reached, your site keeps working for 7 days from the last successful confirmation while it tries again.
When new work is paused #
If the license is not activated, is rejected, or cannot be confirmed for longer than the grace period, the page says New licensed work is paused. with the reason. In the page’s own words: existing records stay readable, and work already under way finishes; new work — new bookings and other changes among it — waits until the license is confirmed. Appointments already booked stay. Software license stays open, so you can activate a key or choose Check now.
Moving to another server #
Before you move, release the activation on the old server: under Software license, tick I understand this releases the activation of this installation and choose Deactivate this installation. New work pauses there. Then activate on the new server with your key.
On a local development host #
A site installed on a local development host shows Development mode on Software license: the license is not enforced there, and the status is for your information only.
